Overview

Quran Home (“the Extension”) is a free Chrome extension that shows a verse of the Quran, the day's prayer times and focus tools on your new tab. This policy explains exactly what data the Extension handles, where it is stored, what is sent over the internet and to whom.

There is no account, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. We do not run a server for Quran Home and never receive your data. The only things sent over the internet are requests to download Quran content, and the city name you type when you search for your location.

1. What stays on your device

1.1 Settings, notes and progress

Your settings, notes, reflections, reading progress, Hifz progress, saved links, “read later” pages and focus history are stored in Chrome's extension storage on your computer.

1.2 Location

If you allow it, your browser gives the Extension your approximate position. It is rounded and used only to calculate prayer times on your device. It is never sent anywhere. The place name shown (for example “Near Mumbai”) comes from your computer's time zone, not from an online lookup.

1.3 Pages you save or block

When you click “Save for later” or “Block during prayer”, the page's address and title are stored on your device. Blocking uses Chrome's built-in blocking rules; the Extension never reads the contents of the pages you visit.

2. Chrome sync

If “Sync across devices” is on (it is on by default and can be turned off in Settings), Chrome copies your settings, notes and saved links to the other computers where you are signed in to Chrome. This goes through your Google account under Google's privacy policy. We cannot see it.

3. What is sent over the internet, and to whom

The Extension contacts these services only to download content. No identifier, account or tracking data is attached.

  • OpenStreetMap Nominatim (nominatim.openstreetmap.org): the city name you type into “Choose city”, to find that city. Nothing else is sent. See their privacy policy.
  • AlQuran Cloud (api.alquran.cloud): Quran text, transliteration and Arabic tafsir.
  • Islamic Network CDN (cdn.islamic.network): recitation audio.
  • QuranEnc (quranenc.com): translations you choose to download.
  • jsDelivr (cdn.jsdelivr.net): English tafsir.

As with any website, these services can see your IP address when your browser downloads from them. Downloaded content is kept on your device so it works offline afterwards.

4. Optional permissions

  • Top sites: requested only if you turn on “Most visited” in Links. The list is shown on your new tab and never leaves your device.
  • Access to a specific site: requested only when you choose to block that site during prayer. You can remove it at any time.

5. What we don't do

  • We don't sell or share your data, and we don't use it for advertising or to determine creditworthiness.
  • We don't collect your browsing history, page contents, keystrokes or personal information.
  • We don't load or run code from the internet.

6. Deleting your data

Removing Quran Home from Chrome deletes everything it stored on your device. To remove synced copies too, turn off “Sync across devices” in Settings before removing it, or clear extension data in your Google account's Chrome sync settings.

7. Children's Privacy

The Extension collects no personal data from anyone, including children.
